Description
1880s Antique Clay Brick ANCHOR BRICK Co Hudson River Valley Raised Anchor RARE. Recovered from the ruins of a Massachusetts TEXTILE MILL fire. You will receive an ANCHOR BRICK but it is NOT WHOLE. There will be a crackl or major chip. The focal point is the RAISED ANCHOR symbol.4. I can send a photo of the brick you will receive if you have a question. Please examine the photos to see examples of the ANCHOR BRICKs that I have in stock. The Mill was constructed in the 1880s. The Anchor Brick Co was one of six brick yards that supplied bricks for the construction of this four story mill. No steel was used in 19th Century Textile mills. (I know that at least six brick yards were contracted because I personnally recovered five other brick yards' bricks in the ruins). This ANCHOR BRICK was found in the oldest part of the mill, near the boiler plant (which would be constructed early in the building process). The Anchor Brick Co was located on the west bank of the HUDSON RIVER, NY at a place called CROTON-on-the-Hudson. The Clay deposits were exceptionally good. The clay was left behind by the receding ICE AGE glaciers. Numerous brick companies set up business in the same area making bricks for many municipal buildings in New York City, Albany, Hartford, Boston, Fall River, and textile mils, schools, and other public and private institutions such as colleges (IVY LEAGUE schools with all of that BRICK for IVY to grow upon.) This brick is really hard to find. The company was only in business for seven years. Also, you can tell this brick is old, because early in the brick making industry, the early brick makers had a RAISED MAKER's MARK. IN this case, the company used the raised relief of an ANCHOR! No lettering. Also, no FROG or indentation. Your purchase will be carefully wrapped and shipped by USPS MEDIUM FLAT RATE. Thank you for your kind consideration. Please, for serious collectors of bricks, masonry, and tile.
****NOTE**** The brick that you receive may or may not be the one featured in the photo graph. Every effort will be made to provide the brick that is featured. If not available, a brick as close to that of the photo will be provided. If a question, please ask and a photo can be sent of the item you are purchasing. Thank you. ****
