Description
This remarkable entrance plate has space for two push-buttons and features two speaking tubes. The bronze plate would have been installed in the vestibule of a 2-family house. Hollow metal tubes connected this plate to a similar mouth piece in each residence. When the bell rang, the person in the house could speak into the tube and the person at the door could reply. Dating to the mid-19th century, it's cast bronze and has a rich, aged patina with overall light verdigris. The Victorian details at top and bottom are nicely incised, with a flower-filled urn and curling anthemions. There are two name-plate holders and we include two vintage brass push-buttons that you could attach to this plate. Rare.
