    VAN HALEN
    CONCERT MEMORABILIA
one authentic COMPLIMENTARY ADMISSION PASS for
VAN HALEN FAREWELL CONCERT - Saturday April 30,1977
    STARWOOD NIGHTCLUB, WEST HOLLYWOOD, CALIFORNIA
This may very well be the Holy Grail of Van Halen collectibles. IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND. It is an authentic card stock complimentary admission, that looks like a backstage pass, to Van Halen's Farewell Concert before entering the recording studio to record their soon to be historic first album. Van Halen played a concert at the Starwood on February 2nd 1977 attended by producer Ted Templeman. He was so impressed that he returned the following night with Warner Brothers President Mo Ostin in tow. They then offered Van Halen a record deal in the dressing room after the show and as they say... the rest is history. Van Halen returned to the Starwood for one last show on April 30th 1977. This artifact is from that show.
How did I come to possess this? Gina Zamparelli (1959-2018) was a famous Los Angeles based concert promoter. In the late 1970's she became manager of the Raymond Theatre in Pasadena, California and put on shows there. The Raymond Theatre became Perkin's Palace in the early 1980's. Gina got her start putting on shows in the mid-1970's for Van Halen in Pasadena backyards where one dollar would get you a Van Halen show and all the beer you could drink. Eddie Van Halen would draw flyers for some of these shows and he and David Lee Roth would go around the Pasadena area posting them on telephone poles, etcetera. In 2014 Gina was clearing out the filing cabinets in her La Canada Flintridge home and came across a bunch of these old flyers and the Starwood pass in this auction and sold them on eBay. I purchased over a dozen flyers and some of these Starwood passes from her at this time. As provenance, to prove that this Starwood pass is authentic, I will include in this auction a photocopy of the receipt Gina gave me for this Starwood pass. The receipt has her name and address on it and the date of the sale. Proof positive that this is the real deal.
